Prime Minister Balen Shah briefs foreign diplomats on government priorities

Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) has formally briefed Nepal-based foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions regarding the government’s core priorities. In his first joint briefing since assuming office at the Prime Minister’s Office, he outlined a 12-point vision aimed at refining Nepal’s international standing through a balanced, practical diplomatic approach.

Addressing the delegates, the Prime Minister emphasised that his government is eager to strengthen relations with friendly nations further and attaches high importance to its ties with all countries. He clarified that the new administration does not represent a break from continuity but is firmly determined to maintain political stability and ensure that policy remains stable and predictable. Central to this vision is a commitment to a balanced foreign policy where external relations are guided by the goal of shared prosperity and a dedication to strengthening partnerships based on mutual benefit.

Prime Minister Shah highlighted that the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens living abroad remain a primary concern for the state. He further noted that peace is a shared priority and expressed a strong desire to cooperate globally on development, trade, investment, climate change, and deepening people-to-people relations. To bolster the economy, he stated that the government is committed to creating a favourable environment for investment and entrepreneurship, with the ultimate goal of integrating Nepal into regional and global economic structures in a way that serves national interests.

The briefing saw the presence of ambassadors and mission heads from India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, the Republic of Korea, Qatar, Switzerland, France, Israel, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and the United Nations.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Shah reiterated Nepal’s commitment to a practical foreign policy, vowing to deepen ties with neighbours, friendly nations, and development partners based on trust, mutual respect, and the collective pursuit of prosperity.
