On the occasion of International Youth Day, Onlinekhabar is releasing this year’s list of 40 influential young people under the age of 40 today. President Ram Chandra Paudel will present awards to the 40 honorees at a ceremony in Lalitpur.
Onlinekhabar began publishing the list of 40 young people three years ago with the aim of highlighting youths who are quietly driving change in society, even amid several negative national indicators. This is the third edition. Onlinekhabar has previously published the “40 Under 40” list in 2024 and 2025 as well.
The selection committee, comprising former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, researcher Dr Uttam Babu Shrestha, researcher Dr Amrita Sharma, and Onlinekhabar Editor-in-Chief Basanta Basnet, finalised the list of 40 individuals. Editor-in-Chief Basnet said the 40 Under 40 list recognises the dedication, diligence and significant contributions made by young people in their respective fields, and helps guide society towards progress. Basnet, who is also a member of the judging panel, credited his team and readers for the continued success of the search for 40 young people under forty, now in its third year.
“The primary job of the press is to expose the problems and ills facing the nation and society. At the same time, it is also our job to share the country’s successes with everyone and encourage potential,” he said. “For three years now, we have continued this work by publishing a list of forty young people under the age of forty. In the days ahead as well, we will continue this search, fairly and effectively, for young people who show society the way forward.”
Basnet also extended gratitude to the newsrooms, bureaus, sponsors and all readers who have supported this initiative. Onlinekhabar’s team worked for nearly four months to prepare the list of 40 influential youths. From around 1,500 names received through online applications and recommendations, a preliminary list was submitted to the judging/selection committee, from which 40 were to be chosen.
The final list of 40 influential young people was drawn up based on the committee’s selection and recommendations.
