A tiger that killed 65-year-old Mangle Bote of Jitpur, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-28, has been captured and taken to a holding cage at the Sauraha-based facility of Chitwan National Park.
According to police, Mangle had gone for a morning walk with 55-year-old Jeevan Bote, also from the same area, on Tuesday morning. After Mangle went missing, a search team comprising police and the Nepali Army found him dead in the Rapti Hariyali and Bethari Buffer Zone Community Forest area.
His body was found with signs of a tiger attack.
Following the discovery of the body, the search for the man-eating tiger was intensified. During the search, the tiger was spotted in the same area and was darted and captured by wildlife technicians working with the National Trust for Nature Conservation.
According to Avinash Thapamagar, information officer at Chitwan National Park, a search for both the man and the tiger was launched immediately after authorities were informed of the attack.
He said the search for the tiger was intensified after the man was found dead, and that the combined efforts of the search team successfully led to the tiger being darted and captured.
“The tiger appears to be a male, around seven to eight years old. It appears healthy, and its canines are also in good condition,” Thapamagar said.
According to him, the captured tiger has been taken to the holding cage in Sauraha. Although its external physical condition appears normal, its internal health condition will be known only after medical examination and monitoring, he said.
With the latest capture, the number of tigers held in cages at Chitwan National Park for various reasons has reached seven. Of them, five are male and two are female.
Most of the tigers were captured after they became man-eaters. One was brought from Banke, while the others were captured in Chitwan National Park and its buffer zone.
