
Kathmandu, March 19
The 8th edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) will be held in Kathmandu from April 20 to 24.
A total of 87 films from 40 countries have been selected for the festival, which is organised by the Nepal Film and Cultural Foundation, according to Festival Chair KP Pathak.
Pathak stated that this edition of the festival will be held under the theme “Festival of Stories from All Over the World: Nepal International Film Festival.”
“Preparations are underway to make this edition more effective than the previous ones,” he said, adding, “We have carefully selected the films to attract movie lovers. The festival will provide a platform for filmmakers from around the world to meet, discuss, and exchange ideas.”
As part of the festival, ‘Russian Film Day’ will be organised on the third day, Saturday.
The festival is divided into two main categories: national and international.
In the international category, the best film will receive the ‘Gautam Buddha Award’ along with a cash prize of $1,500. Similarly, an outstanding film from both the national and international categories will be honored with the ‘Don Quixote Award’ by the Federation of International Film Societies.
In the national category, the best film will be awarded Rs 100,000 and a trophy, while the best short film and best documentary will each receive Rs 50,000 and a trophy.
The best international documentary will be presented with the ‘Mount Everest Award’ and a prize of $1,000, while the best international short film will receive the ‘Bagmati Award’ along with $500.
Additionally, films based on AI technology will be recognised with the ‘Manjushree Award’, carrying a prize of $500.
