Two public utilities under the government, Salt Trading Corporation Limited and Food Management and Trading Company, will operate 10 such shops in Kathmandu valley and some others in major cities across the country. All existing outlets of the two companies will also provide festive discounts on various items.

A formal decision regarding this will be made on Monday, informs FMTC Chief Executive Officer Netra Prasad Subedi.

He says the company might take Dairy Development Corporation also into confidence to run fair price shops for DDC-produced items.

“Preparations are also underway to partner with some private companies and cooperatives also,” Subedi says, “A decision will be made soon.”

Last year, 73 fair price shops were operated across the country.
