Salt price increased by Rs 6 per Kg

Kathmandu, July 3

The government has increased the price of salt after 8 years. According to Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Salt Trading Corporation, Kumar Rajbhandari, the meeting of the board of directors of the company on Tuesday decided to increase the price of salt.

The consumer price of Ayo salt, which was previously Rs 20, has now been increased to Rs 26 per kg.

The wholesale price of Ayo salt has been increased to Rs 23 per kg.

The price of new Shakti salt has reached Rs 17 per kg in bulk and consumer price has reached Rs 20. Bhanu salt has reached Rs 9 per kg.

According to Rajbhandari, even though the price has increased, the company still has a loss. Earlier, the company was selling salt costing Rs 28 per kg at Rs 18.50. Now Rs 23 has been set for wholesale sale. He informed that even in this case, the company will incur a loss of Rs 5 per kg.

He said that profit was not sought in salt because it was a service provided by the government to the people. However, he said that there is a plan to gradually adjust the price and go to the point where there is no loss.
