Resolving provincial boundary row, building investment-friendly climate my priorities: NC President Deuba

Kathmandu, March 10

Nepali Congress’ newly-elected President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, said he will hold conventions of sister organisations within the next six months. The party will soon hold a meeting, Deuba said, pledging to start discussions for setting the dates for the conventions of the party’s fraternal bodies.

Deuba said this while talking to a team from Nepal Students’ Union that had visited his residence in Budhanilkantha on Thursday to congratulate him on his victory in the race for NC presidency.

“Conventions of NC’s sister organisations have not taken place for long. This is sad,” NSU spokesperson UP Lamichhane quoted Deuba as saying. “After discussions with party leaders, I will set the dates for the conventions,” Lamichhane quoted Deuba.

Pointing at his election at the 13th general convention of the NC, Deuba said party leaders and cadres have entrusted him with additional responsibilities. “I have not taken the general convention as a matter of win or loss,” Lamichhane quoted Deuba. “I have taken the occasion as party colleagues giving me certain responsibilities.”

Deuba pledged to move the party ahead by taking all NC leaders into confidence.

Sorting out the dispute over demarcation of provincial boundaries, creating a conducive environment for investment and normalising the situation made complex by the Madhesh movement and the blockade are my priorities, Deuba said. Talking to the NSU team on Thursday, newly-elected NC General Secretary Shashank Koirala said the 13th GC has created a new wave in the party. Koirala said the party will move ahead together.

Koirala pledged to stress the need to hold NC sister organisations’ conventions during the upcoming CWC meeting.
