19,000 govt officials yet to submit property details for last fiscal year

Kathmandu, January 21

Six months have passed since the completion of the fiscal year 2016/17, but around 19,000 government officials have not submitted property details yet, says the National Vigilance Centre.

The Corruption Prevention Act has a provision that officials receiving perks and benefits from the state coffers have to submit details of their property within two months since the completion of each fiscal year.

Most of them, more than 8,500, are teachers of government schools. The Centre says around 10 per cent of total government-employed teachers have not submitted the property details yet.

Likewise, around five per cent of 86,000 civil servants have not submitted the details.

Security personnel, however, are quite ahead of others in complying with the law. The number of security staff refusing to submit the details is less than one per cent.

The Centre claims the compliance to the law is on the rise in overall.

Those failing to submit the details on time are fined as per the law.
