Kathmandu, November 4

Sixteen doctors working at the emergency ward of Bir Hospital have resigned en masse stating the hospital did not provide them with Dashain-Tihar allowances and safety gear to protect themselves from the coronavirus infection risks.

The doctors hired on the contract basis say the hospital management did not make efforts to address their concerns although they had drawn its attention to them time and again.

They claim the hospital made them work for 96 hours a week without ensuring their safety.

“We have been told to choosing between obeying them and resigning. Hence, we resigned,” one of the doctors tendering resignation, Bhabindra Karki, says, “However, we will continue working until the resignation is approved. We will not give up our professional duty.”

Meanwhile, the hospital’s director Dr Kedar Senchuri claims officials are discussing the disgruntled doctors’ demands.
