Province 3 capital: Nepali Congress warns of blockade if relocated from Hetaunda

Hetaunda, October 14

A key provincial leader of the main opposition Nepali Congress has warned that his party will impose a blockade if the Province 3 Assembly decides to relocate the provincial capital from Hetaunda of Makawanpur district.

Indra Bahadur Baniya says arguments that a capital should be at centre from all districts of the province is an anti-federalism idea as it is not possible.

He adds no one ever questioned if Kathmandu was an appropriate location for the federal capital though it is not at the centre of country.

Meanwhile, leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party in the district also demanded that Hetaunda be retained as the provincial capital.

Claiming that efforts are being made to relocate the capital, leader Kumari Moktan says all parties should come together to establish Hetaunda as the permanent provincial capital.

The issue of naming the capital is at the centre of political discussions in the city after a committee formed to suggest the capital city submitted its report to the Provincial Assembly without any concrete decision.
