Private school fee hike: Govt invites student unions for talks

Student unions submit a memorandum to Education Minister Dhaniram Poudel, in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Kathmandu, April 28

The Ministry of Education on Friday called major student unions for talks after they announced fresh protest programmes against fee hike at various private schools of Kathmandu Valley.

The student unions, however, are planning to padlock all District Education Offices across the nation as well as the Department of Education today.

MoE spokesperson Hari Lamsal telephoned leaders of major student unions and invited for the talks at 1 pm at the Ministry.

Earlier, on Thursday, the unions had announced new protest programmes including boycotting events attended by the Education Minister, officials of the Ministry and the Department as well as PABSON and NPABSON.

The unions had padlocked various schools of Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday protesting their decision to hike the fee, which the unions said was against a Supreme Court order.

They had served an ultimatum to the government to make the schools roll back the decision last week.
