Butwal, January 22

Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel has accused the government of turning various constitutional bodies into the institutes that provide jobs to cadres of the ruling Nepali Communist Party.

Paudel says the government recently held a meeting of the Constitutional Council in absence of the main opposition party leader, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and recommended names for some key appointments.

A recent meeting of the Council had recommended various names for the chiefs of National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, National Inclusive Commission, Tharu Commission, Muslim Commission and Madheshi Commission.

“This is an attack on democracy and it should be taken seriously,” Paudel said while speaking at a function in Butal of Rupandehi today.

In another context, Paudel said the government was heading towards authoritarianism.

“There are three major functions of a government: development, good governance, and peace and security,” he said, “But, the incumbent government failed in all respects.”
