Pant murder: Official quits investigation team, says deadline extended to free culprits

A protest launched in Kanchanpur demanding action against the culprits of rape and murder of local Nirmala Pant, in August 2018.

Kathmandu, September 10

A government official, who was a member of the team formed to investigate into the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant in Bhimdatta Nagar of Kanchanpur district, says he has quit the team.

Undersecretary Birendra KC organised a press conference to inform that he resigned from the position as member because the government extended the tenure of the committee which could have adverse impacts on the investigation.

KC claimed extending the deadline would be adverse as the team already concluded the probe and prepared the report, as the culprits now could have more time to get free.

“I got myself relieved of the responsibility as my opinions and facts found could be ignored.”
