Nepali Congress: Khand says leadership handover is immediately impossible

Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand speaks with journalists, in Kathmandu, on Friday, December 1, 2017.

Kathmandu, December 12

Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand says leadership handover of the party is immediately impossible despite the debacle it faced in recent provincial and federal parliamentary elections.

Speaking with journalists in Kathmandu today, Khand said, “Not only President Sher Bahadur Deuba, but all are responsible for the election loss. Therefore, the leadership will not be immediately changed.”

Of late, some young leaders including Gagan Thapa have demanded a special convention of the party for leadership handover. Thapa has said he will launch an ‘organised intervention’ if the current leadership does not quit.

“But, nothing will happen just because someone makes a statement against the President,” Deuba-loyal Khand said, “I also heard that some people warned of launched some intervention, but they do not have a moral ground to say so.”

Khand, however, maintained that the special convention might be called to prepare new strategies.

The leader stressed that the party should be united to revive the strength.
