Earlier report:

Kathmandu, October 6

Kathmandu District court has given local police permission to arrest former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, a day after a parliament secretariat employee filed a complaint against him accusing him of attempting to rape her.

According to police, a bench of judge Brajesh Pyakurel issued the police permission to arrest Mahara and investigate the attempt to rape case.

With this, police now have the legal mandate to arrest the Mahara, who has been accused of attempt to rape. However, before his arrest Parliament needs to suspend Mahara, who still holds the post of lawmaker.

The complainant filed a complaint at the Baneshwor police station on Friday evening amid speculations that she was under pressure not to file complaints against the former Maoist leader.
