After leftists, it’s Nepali Congress’ turn to form democratic alliance

Kathmandu, October 4

Apparently in a response to major communist parties’ decision to form an election alliance for upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections, the Nepali Congress has decided to partner with other democratic forces for the polls.

A meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee held at the Prime Minister and party President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s official residence today decided that the party did not have any option than to form the alliance.

“We wished there had not been any polarisation so as to institutionalise federal democratic republic,” Congress leader Arjun Narasingha KC says, “But now, the democratic alliance has become inevitable.”

The party says it will begin discussions with the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal among others.
