YouTuber arrested for abusing Prime Minister released

Kathmandu, April 12

YouTuber Roshan Pokharel, who was arrested on charges of broadcasting abusive content using derogatory language against leaders, including Prime Minister Balendra Shah, on YouTube, has been released.

According to DSP Anish Karna, Chief of the District Police Office, Panchthar, Pokharel was released into the custody of his relatives on the condition that he presents himself whenever required.

A resident of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-7 in Panchthar, Pokharel, was arrested on April 9. He was apprehended by the District Police Office, Panchthar, based on an investigation by the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau. Following his arrest, the Panchthar District Court had extended his remand by 10 days.

Since his arrest, Prime Minister Balen Shah has faced significant criticism on social media. Those criticising the Prime Minister have been sharing his old Facebook statuses and videos to highlight perceived inconsistencies.
