World Cup Qualifiers: Nepal footballers leave for Kuwait

Kathmandu, September 1

Nepal’s national football team have left for Kuwait to face the hosts in the first match of the second round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. Nepal will take on the hosts on September 5, after which they will travel to Chinese Taipei to take on the hosts on September 10.

Nepal have never beaten Kuwait. In a recent meeting between the two sides, Nepal lost one and drew the other in April.

Earlier last week, National Sports Council member secretary Ramesh Silwal and ANFA president Karma Chhiring Sherpa among other government officials had wished success for the players. Sherpa had also promised that the ANFA would give the players a cash prize if they defeated Kuwait.

Other members of Nepal’s group are Australia and Jordan. Nepal will face all four teams home and away. Only one team from the group will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
