The Nepal Water Supply Corporation running under the government has been refusing to let the government auditor check its financial documents for last four years, it has been learned.

The Office of Auditor General had assigned Nirajan Simkhada to audit transactions at the Corporation two years ago. However, after failing to receive the papers, Simkhada has recently resigned.

The Corporation’s Finance Division Chief, Ramakanta Pandey, however, says the audit could not take place as the board did not approve the decision though the management team was cooperating well with the auditor.

“The management had finalised all financial documents for audit and submitted it to the board,” he says, adding he does not know why the board did not approve the papers.

The board’s Chairman Parameshwor Pokharel, however, says the documents have not been submitted to the board for discussion. “We do not have any difficulty to make decisions on the issues which have been tabled for discussion to the board.”

Another official at the Corporation, meanwhile, views that political power sharing played the role to prevent audit.
