UML’s Shakya widens lead as over 88,000 votes counted in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, May 22

The CPN-UML’s mayoral candidate Bidya Sundar Shakya has widened his lead against his closest rival Raju Raj Joshi of Nepali Congress as the vote counting is underway in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

While over 88,000 votes have been counted, Shakya has garnered 29,368 votes whereas Joshi is restricted to 20,368.

Bibeksheel Nepali Party’s Ranju Darshana is on the third position with 11,257 votes. She is followed by Kishore Thapa of the Sajha Party with 8,523 votes.

Meanwhile, in the deputy mayoral race, NC candidate Hari Prabha Khadgi is on the lead with 26,417 votes. Her nearest competitor Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Rajaram Shrestha has got 16,823 votes.

Sajha Party’s Nirupama Yadav has garnered 5,450 votes.
