UML finalises names of 6 ministers in Bagmati

Hetauda, July 23

The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), or CPN-UML, has finalised the names of six ministers for the Bagmati Provincial Government.

The newly appointed ministers are Prakash Shrestha and Aman Maskey from Kathmandu, Prem Bhakta Maharjan from Lalitpur, Kiran Thapamagar from Bhaktapur, Krishna Silwal from Chitwan, and Sukmaya Tamang from Sindhuli. Prakash Shrestha, who previously served as the Minister of Industry, Commerce, Land, and Administration, is the only returning minister. The rest are new faces in the provincial cabinet.

Today, the Congress-UML coalition in Bagmati is set to present its claim for the Chief Minister’s position. Bahadur Singh Lama, the leader of the Congress parliamentary party, will submit the claim on behalf of the coalition.

The formation of a new government follows the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Shalikram Jammakattel.

While the appointments of the Chief Minister and ministers are expected today, the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday.

In the coalition agreement, the Congress will secure the Chief Minister’s position, and the UML will take charge of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure in Bagmati. Initially, the UML was set to take the Ministry of Financial Affairs, but the ministries were swapped in a later agreement.
