Bagmati CM Baniya to take vote of confidence today

Kathmandu, August 17

Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya will seek a vote of confidence today.

Baniya is scheduled to seek the vote of confidence at the Provincial Assembly session convening Monday at 1 pm.

The move comes after CPN-UML, a coalition partner, withdrew its support from the government on July 22.

With UML’s withdrawal, Chief Minister Baniya now lacks a majority. To keep the government afloat, he needs the backing of other smaller parties.

In the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, Congress is the largest party with 36 seats. The NCP holds 26 seats and UML 25 (including the deputy speaker). Among the others, RPP has 12 seats, NEMKIPA three, and Hamro Nepali Party two.

Forming a new government in Bagmati requires a majority of 53 provincial assembly members.
