Long-distance travel from Kathmandu remains suspended, tickets to be refunded

Kathmandu, October 5

Long-distance vehicles from Kathmandu remain restricted from leaving for their destinations today.

Although the situation inside the Kathmandu Valley has returned to normal, long-distance vehicles are still not allowed to operate because roads outside the valley have yet to fully recover. Transport operators have also been instructed to stop booking tickets for now.

According to SP Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, no long-distance vehicles have been allowed to leave from any of Kathmandu’s exit points today.

“Except for vehicles providing essential services, none have been allowed to leave or enter Kathmandu since today morning,” SP Subedi said.

He added that those who had already purchased bus tickets have been refunded.

“Passengers who had bought tickets have received refunds from the ticket counters, and new bookings have been halted,” Subedi said. “We’ve told transport operators to resume ticket sales only after road conditions become normal.”

Due to heavy rain, floods, and landslides, the government had decided to restrict vehicular movement in and out of the Kathmandu Valley from October 4 to 6.
