Taxi fares in the Bagmati province have gone up, informs the province’s Labour and Transportation Ministry.

According to its decision, the minimum fare of a taxi has gone up to Rs 60. Passengers who take taxis will have to pay Rs 60 for the first kilometre, after which Rs 9.80 will be charged for every 200 metres.

The provincial ministry has also made it mandatory for all taxis to ply using the government registered metre. Failure to do so will result in punishment according to the law, reads the ministry’s statement.

Along with that, taxi drivers will also have to give passengers a card that contains the taxi’s registration number, the driver’s name and phone number. The card has to be in both Nepali and English.
