Supreme Court to government: Don’t initiate legal action against Kanak Mani Dixit, family for now

Kanakmani-Dixit

Kathmandu, August 5

The Supreme Court has directed concerned authorities not to initiate legal action against journalist Kanak Mani Dixit and his family members for now.

The court issued this directive when the Lalitpur district land reforms office was preparing to confiscate land in the possession of the Dixits.

A single bench of Supreme Court justice Hari Krishna Karki, in course of a hearing on a writ petition, told authorities not to initiate legal action against Dixit and his family members till the court issues a final verdict. The court has directed authorities to produce both parties before it within a week for discussions.

Based on a letter from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, LRO had initiated an investigation into Dixit’s land.

Subsequently, the Revenue Investigation Department, after conducting an investigation, had also directed Dixit to produce himself before the office. Dixit had moved the court of law against the department’s move.

Meanwhile, Lalitpur LRO has initiated a process for confiscation of Dixit family’s land. It has decided to bring 18 ropani of land at Patan Dhoka, registered in the family’s name, under government ownership.

Now, Dixit can move the court against this confiscation, seeking a review. Dixit has been saying that all these events have been taking place as per CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki’s directives.
