Sudurpaschim: Seven quarantined people died in seven days. What’s killing them?

Dhangadhi, June 7

Four districts of the Sudurpaschim district have reported deaths of seven persons who were quarantined to protect their communities from the Covid-19 spread in the past week.

Among them, one person tested positive for coronavirus whereas three tested negatives. Meanwhile, the test results of three other persons have not come out. Even if only three tested negatives for the virus, what is killing them?

Observers say it is poor quarantine facilities.

Dr Nirajan Dutta Sharma, a senior physician at Seti Provincial Hospital, who has been assigned to lead a temporary Covid-19 hospital in Dhangadhi, says people living with chronic diseases have been deprived of proper care in quarantine, increasing the risk of death. Likewise, the food arrangements at quarantine camps are not so good, he complains.

“If asthmatic people are placed at wet places, they may face various problems suddenly. I have heard that some of the recently died people were suffering from asthma and high blood pressure.

Dr Bhushan Mishra, a medical officer at Provincial Health Directorate, says further research is needed to determine the causes of recent deaths.

“Unnecessary fear and nervousness have also created problems,” he says, suggesting concerned government bodies improve the management of quarantine camps.
