State should not favour any religion: Prachanda

Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Chitwan, December 25

Nepal Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ says that the government should neither favour a religion nor try to block any faith.

The former Prime Minister, who was speaking at a programme in Chitwan, said that the constitution respects the people’s right to religious independence. Dahal added that communist leaders such as Pushpalal and Congress leaders such as BP Koirala were in favour of scientific thinking and they spend their lives trying to establish that.

However, no one has the right to insult any faith, he added. Dahal’s comments come hours after he was engaged in a verbal spat with Nepali Congress leader Shehkar Koirala. While Koirala pointed his finger at the NCP leadership’s decision to welcome the Unification Church to or organise a controversial event in Nepal, Dahal had criticsed the Nepali Congress for trying to instigate a debate about Hindu Rastra in Nepal.
