Kathmandu, August 28

Protesting staff have said they are shutting down all government schools across Nepal for a week.

School Employee Council, a group of community school staff, says it has padlocked all schools across the country demanding the government address their concerns regarding unfair payment scales. The government school closure will continue till this Friday.

The organisation’s general secretary Shanti Nath Yogi says the organisation has established a 41-member committee to coordinate among the schools for the protest.

It has been around two weeks since the staff are protesting. The union says the protest will continue until the demand is met.
