Budhi Gandaki

Kathmandu, October 11

The flood in the Budhigandaki River has damaged two bridges in Gorkha district.

According to preliminary damage details released by the Department of Roads, the Soti Khola bridge connecting Arughat Rural Municipality-2 and 3 has been completely washed away.

The flood also swept away a 22-metre RCC section of the Arughat bridge connecting Gorkha and Dhading. The bridge has a total of 60 metres of truss and a 25-metre RCC structure, and its truss section still appears to be standing.

The department said it is studying whether a Bailey bridge could be placed on the remaining truss structure to restore traffic.

It said a detailed technical assessment of the bridge’s condition is underway, and that the full extent of the flood damage will become clear after that assessment.
