Gandaki provincial health ministry releases preliminary details of Budhigandaki flood damage

The Gandaki Province Ministry of Health has released preliminary details of the damage caused by the flash flood in Gorkha’s Budhigandaki River.

The details say houses, bridges and a hydropower project were damaged.

The ministry said health institutions in Philim, Salleri, Jagat and Machhikhola are at lower risk because they sit at higher elevations.

It added that the district-level Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) of Gorkha, Lamjung and Tanahun, along with the Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) of the provincial hospitals, have been placed on standby.

Preliminary details of damage received from Gandaki’s health ministry

  • Chumnubri Rural Municipality-3, Nyakchet: The old suspension bridge connecting Nyakchet to Sirdibas was washed away.
  • Chumnubri-3, Sirdibas: One mud-built house belonging to Ram B. Gurung was washed away and floodwater entered one house.
  • Dharche Rural Municipality-5: The suspension bridge connecting Machhikhola to Keroja was washed away.
  • Dharche-5, lower settlement in Machhikhola: Floodwater entered five to seven houses and five to seven sheds.
  • Dharche-3, Salleri: 20 to 22 houses are at risk.
  • Arughat Rural Municipality-2 and 3: The steel permanent bridge at Soti connecting the two wards was washed away.
  • Chumnubri-3, Sallery: The Sahaj Urja power house under construction and seven to eight houses around it were washed away.
  • Arughat-9, Nayapul: One of the three sections of the permanent bridge connecting Arughat and Dhading, the one on the Gorkha side, was washed away. The road is completely blocked.
