Kathmandu, June 26

Traffic police and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City have begun discussions on keeping smart signboards at bus stations of the capital city to better manage traffic and help passengers.

The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division has recently floated the proposal with the KMC.

The MTPD Chief, DIG Mingmar Lama, says he has told KMC Executive Officer Ishwari Raj Paudyal that such boards should be immediately installed at major bus stations of the city.

“Many passengers are confused about where their buses stop,” he says, “This problem should not be lingered now.”

Unaware, the passengers come to the roads to ask for routes of vehicles and it creates traffic congestion, he informs, adding the digital boards will be a great help to traffic management in the city.

Paudyal says the KMC is positive about the proposal and the executive body might take a decision in this regard.

He suggested that a public-private partnership model can be adopted for the project as some space on the board can be allocated for advertisements.
