Kathmandu, June 15

The People’s Socialist Party Nepal is preparing to take action against its lawmaker Sarita Giri, who recently defied the party’s whip regarding the constitution amendment bill.

As the government had registered the bill to revise the national emblem to incorporate the new political map, Giri had registered an amendment proposal against the bill. The party had directed her to withdraw the proposal, but she did not.

Before the House of Representatives put the bill to a vote on Saturday, the party had issued a whip, directing its lawmakers to support the bill. However, Giri left the meeting halfway before the voting began.

Therefore, the party is removing her from its general membership, informs a leader of the party. When a lawmaker loses membership of the party through which one is elected, the lawmaker’s position will also be lost, according to the constitution’s Article 89 (E).
