Kathmandu, June 9

Education, Science and Technology Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha has directed officials to confiscate all school textbooks that have printed the old map of Nepal without the Limpiyadhura-Lipulekh region.

The minister issued the directive to the Curriculum Development Centre after receiving a tip-off that some private publishers printed the old map in the book.

Speaking in a meeting of the Curriculum Development and Assessment Council on Wednesday, Shrestha said the publishers and distributors would be brought within the ambit of law and take the maximum action possible.

“Please monitor and take action by mobilising the police if the books are found to be circulating in the market with the old map so as to jeopardise the country,” he reportedly said.

After India published the new political map in November 2019 incorporating the contested region, Nepal had reacted by revising its political map also in May 2020.
