Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and Tab A9+: Affordable tablet with an 8.7-inch display launched in Nepal

Samsung’s A series tablets have gained popularity in both the budget and mid-range segments. Recently, Samsung introduced the new Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 in Nepal. The A9 was launched alongside the A9+ in India during the first week of October. However, in Nepal, only the Tab A9 has been released and is available in two variants. The Tab A9 is Samsung’s latest addition to the tablet lineup following the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

Samsung’s A series tablets have earned widespread affection for two primary reasons: pricing and features. Let us see what the tablets offer in terms of specs.

Design and Display

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+ share the same design language. Both the tablets have a metal back with a matte finish. The A9 has a thickness of 8mm whereas the A9+ is slimmer at 6.9mm. The major difference can be seen on the front display. The Tab A9’s front camera is on the top of the display whereas the front camera of the Tab A9+ is on the side.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 features an 8.7-inch TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 1,340 x 800, offering clear and vibrant visuals at a standard 60 Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the A9+ steps up with a larger 11-inch TFT LCD display, with 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and a smoother 90 Hz refresh rate. Both the tablet’s display offers 16M colour depth for clear details.

Performance and Storage

The Tab A9 has a Mediatek Helio G99 chipset built on a 6nm architecture, featuring an octa-core processor configuration with Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores. Its graphics are handled by the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.

In contrast, the A9+ has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset built on a 6nm process, with an octa-core CPU composed of Kryo 660 Gold and Kryo 660 Silver core. Its graphics are handled by the Adreno 619 GPU. Both tablets run on Android 13 with One UI 5.1 operating system.

In terms of memory, the Tab A9 is available in Nepal with a single RAM option of 4GB, paired with a storage capacity of 64 GB. The Tab A9+ is not currently available in Nepal, but it comes with two memory configurations: 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage and 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage.

Camera

Both the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and A9+ have one 8 MP rear camera which is pretty decent for clicking pictures and shooting videos. Both tablets offer FHD (1,920 x 1,080) for video shooting at 30fps. As for selfies and videos, the Tab A9 has a 2MP front camera, while the A9+ offers a 5MP front camera. The A9+ supports FHD video shooting at 30fps.

Battery and Others

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and Tab A9+ have different battery capacities—the A9 comes with a 5,100 mAh battery while the A9+ has a larger 7040 mAh battery. Both tablets support 15W wired charging. Regarding connectivity, the tablets offer Wi-Fi support for 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4G+5GHz frequencies and Bluetooth with the A9 using Bluetooth 5.1 and the A9+ using Bluetooth 5.2. In terms of audio, the A9 has dual speakers while the A9+ offers an enhanced experience with quad speakers, while both of them have Dolby atmos enhancement.

As for sensors, the Tab A9 has an accelerometer, geomagnetic sensor, light sensor and proximity sensor while the A9+ has two more sensors gyro sensor and a hall sensor.

Both the tablets come in three colour options; graphite, navy and silver.

As for the pricing, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 comes in two variants: the 4/64GB Wi-Fi version priced at Rs 21,499 and the 4/64GB Wi-Fi/LTE variant priced at Rs 27,499. As for the A9+, the expected prices are around Rs 40,500 for the 4/64GB Wi-Fi version and Rs 48,500 for the 8/128GB Wi-Fi variant in Nepal.
