Rautahat police open fire at midnight to nab absconding murder suspect

Rautahat, February 19

A police troop in Rautahat district of southern Nepal has opened fire on an absconding murder suspect some minutes before midnight on Tuesday. Kameshwar Patel Kurmi was arrested after the encounter.

The District Police Office says Kurmi faces more than a dozen criminal charges including murder. However, he was on the run for the past few months.

When the police team spotted him in Jagalsahiya, Chandrapur municipality-4 of the district, police nabbed him by firing four rounds of bullets. The DPO claims the suspect opened fire first and the police retaliated.

The police confiscated a pistol, and five round bullets from him.

Kurmi has sustained injuries on his left foot and is undergoing treatment at Chandrapur Hospital.
