Electricity supply has been disrupted in 10 local units after water entered the Nepal Electricity Authority’s substation in Malangawa, Sarlahi, following continuous rainfall.
According to the NEA’s Malangawa Distribution Centre, electricity supply to areas served by the substation has been cut off since around 4 am on Sunday.
Technical engineer Saurav Shah said electricity had to be shut off after water entered the substation’s switchyard and control room due to the continuous rainfall.
He said the substation area remains inundated, making it impossible to immediately resume power supply. Efforts are underway to drain the water using motor pumps. Electricity will be restored only after the water level falls and technical tests are completed, he said.
Madhavendra Yadav, chief of the NEA’s Malangawa Distribution Centre, said efforts to drain the water were being expedited. According to him, holes have been made in the wall surrounding the substation premises to facilitate water drainage. He said the drainage process has been hampered by a blocked external drain.
“The water has already been removed from the control room. Fans are now being used to dry the equipment,” Yadav said. “Electricity supply may resume within the next two to three hours after technical tests are completed.”
Consumers in 10 local units, including Malangawa, have been affected by the power outage. The NEA said electricity supply would be restored after the water is drained and technical tests are completed.
