Police personnel, Federal Alliance activists clash at Maitighar Mandala as Singhadurbar-centric movement continues

Protesters staging a Singhadurbar-centric protest clashed with police at Maitighar Mandala on Monday. The clash reportedly ensued when protesters tried to march ahead by breaking security cordon.

The exact number of people injured in the protest is unclear. An Onlinekhabar journalist reported from the site that three protesters were injured in the incident. They are Amar Dhimal, Sonam Rai and Santosh.

But Ajaya Kumar Yadav, general secretary of the Federal Socialist Youth Forum, said dozens of cadres were injured when police lathi-charged the protesters. He accused police of attacking FA leaders and cadres for no reason when they were staging a peaceful protest.

The injured include youth forum central member Nitesh Limbu, Federal Press Forum’s Sukdev Chamling, Federal Socialist Forum’s central member Bishnu Jang Basnet, Rajendra Khanal, Krishna Ghalan, labour leader Dayaram Rai, student leader Dipesh Yadav, Suvas Labu and Shiva Shankar Yadav, Saptari district secretary of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal.

The FA has protested against what it called police intervention in a peaceful protest.

Tension gripped the Maitighar area for sometime after clashes between police and protesters. Police have taken the situation under control now. In Maitighar, there are more than 500 protesters whereas the presence of police personnel is far higher. Protesters are raising anti-government slogans.
