Pokhara, May 10
Student union leaders in Pokhara have burned an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in their protest against India’s announcement of the inauguration of a link road to Manasarovar that passes through Gunji village of the Nepali territory as per the Sugauli Treaty.
After they burned the effigy, police detained four of them. They have been identified as Kshitij Sapkota, Bishal Tamang, Binaya Adhikari, and Milan Subedi. They are all local leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party’s student union.
Sapkota, also a central committee member of the union, says they protested the country’s submissiveness calling to protect the national independence, but police detained them.
