Pokhara Premier League to start on Oct 26

Kathmandu, June 19

Six franchises are set to battle it out for the Pokhara Premier League(PPL) from October 26 to November 6 this year.

The event will feature some old franchises and some new ones; and will be managed by Queen Event Management.

An auction will be held to select the players, informs Managing Director of Queen Event Management, Chhumbi Lama.

Before the PPL starts, the franchises have decided to form U-16 teams and host a Junior PPL tournament in Kathmandu. The final, however, will be hosted in Pokhara.

To make sure the stadiums are full, the franchises have decided to form fan clubs whose fans can travel and stay in the Lake City at a relatively subsidised fee.

The cash prize has not been decided yet, but organisers have said that the purse will be worth over Rs 2.5 million, which will mean that it will be the highest among all previous tournaments held in Nepal.

Even though the state of Pokhara cricket ground is not up to the mark, the organisers are adamant that the tournament takes place there.

Lama says that their biggest challenge is to make sure that the ground is ready and adds that a pitch curator from India has been called to make sure it is ready by then.

Present at the press conference organised to announce the event, Nepal’s national cricket team captain Paras Khadka and coach Jagat Tamata highlighted the need to have more tournaments like these for the the development of cricket.
