The Prachanda-led Council of Ministers is hesitating to make property details of PM Prachanda and other ministers public.

Hundred days have already passed since the formation of this government, but PM Prachanda and other Cabinet ministers seem unwilling to publicise their properties. According to a source at the Prime Minister’s Office, PM and other ministers have submitted their property details to it.

Earlier, after getting property details of ministers and PM, PMO used to make them public through its website. But the Prachanda-government has not publicised such details.

Damodar Regmi, spokesperson for PMO, said: We have received property details of all ministers. We will make the details public once the Council of Ministers takes a decision to this effect. Regmi had earlier said there have been delays in making the details public as some ministers have not even completed 60 days in office.

As per the law, anyone holding public office should make public properties registered in their and their families’ names within 60 days after assuming office. They have to make public the updated property details at the end of each fiscal year.

A source said the Cabinet has not publicised property details because of the PM’s unwillingness. It said it doesn’t know why the PM wants to hide his properties.

Previous governments used to publicise property details of PM and other ministers within 15 days of assumption of office.
