Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi, special emissary of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, is holding high-level talks with Indian officials from Friday.

Nidhi will call on India’s President Pranab Mukherjee and extend him an invite to visit Nepal. Most probably, DPM Nidhi will meet India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

During his visit, Nidhi will seek to confirm Mukherjee’s Nepal visit and Nepal PM Prachanda’s India visit. PM Prachanda is likely to visit India in the last week of Bhadra (mid-September, 2016).

India media outlets reported that proposed date for Nepal PM Prachanda’s India visit is mid-September (September 15-18), meaning Mukherjee may visit Nepal after Prachanda returns home.

Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi will set agendas of Prachanda’s visit during his stay in New Delhi.

A highly-placed source at the CPN-Maoist Centre, which leads the present government, said PM Prachanda will visit India shortly.

Nidhi will set agendas of Prachanda’s visit during his stay in New Delhi.

The Prachanda government is seeking to make Mukherjee the chief guest of the official programme marking Nepal’s Constitution Day, which falls on September 19. The then KP Oli government had started preparations for Mukherjee’s Nepal visit and the Indian side was also positive. As per the plan, Nepal President Bidhya Bhandari was supposed to visit India before her Indian counterpart’s Nepal visit. It’s unclear now whether Mukherjee’s Nepal visit will take place on prescheduled date. Moreover, with Prachanda likely to visit India from September 15 till 18, chances are Mukherjee’s Nepal visit will take place sometime later.

Notably, Indian media outlets have been saying that Mukherjee will visit Nepal only after amendment in Nepal’s Constitution that addresses demands of Madheshi Morcha (United Democratic Madheshi Front).
