Kathmandu, June 8

The Parliament on Thursday endorsed the first amendment to the Local Level Election Act in order to facilitate the participation of the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal, a party recently formed with the merger of six Madhesh-centric parties.

The amendment removes Section 18.1 of the Act, which had mentioned that any party willing to participate in the polls has to submit signatures of its office bearers to the Election Commission at least 15 days before the day of filing nominations for the polls.

The RJPN had demanded removal of the provision as it had less than 15 days to file nominations for the polls.

The polls are being held in provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7 on June 28.

The Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and the Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal had protested the amendment.

Meanwhile, the House shall hold its next meeting at 11 am on Friday.
