Kathmandu, February 25
A lawmaker of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has raised concerns over Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recent birthday celebration.
Minendra Rijal, speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, said Oli’s lavishness surpassed celebrations of the monarchs in the past. He said people were disappointed by the prime minister’s boastfulness.
A sarcastic Rijal said, “I wonder if his house recognised him. It might have thought it was not the same KP, he was already transformed into a new monarch. The house might have felt disrespected by the money of Yeti Holdings and a cake fetched on a helicopter.”
He said the former monarchs would envy the prime minister for his birthday celebration was more lavish than theirs.
In another context, he said the recently leaked out audiotape allegedly involving former communications minister Gokul Baskota ridiculed the prime minister’s commitment against corruption. The opposition leader urged the PM to express his views in the House about the issue.
