Amidst demands that the government fence in its territory to save the country from frequent Indian encroachment, one ward chief in Parsa district of Province 2 has actually begun to implement the idea.

Surya Lama, the chair of Thori rural municipality-3 of the district, says he has already erected a fence along a five-kilometre stretch whereas an additional 1.8-km stretch is yet to be fenced. He says the campaign started in late 2017. The ward has spent around Rs 3.3 million on the project so far.

“It is very sad that our land in many places is being encroached. I wish the next generation tomorrow would not feel any pain of encroachment at this place,” he says, “Hence, we channelised the infrastructure development budget to fence in our land.”

Lama states that all stakeholders have supported his initiative.
