Security officials from Nepal and India have agreed to strengthen joint patrols and regularly exchange information to curb cross-border crimes along the Nepal-India border.
The agreement was reached during a Nepal-India Security Officers’ Coordination Meeting held in Jaleshwar, Mahottari, on Saturday.
According to Mahottari Assistant Chief District Officer Sanjay Kumar Pokharel, officials from both countries discussed measures to control cross-border crimes, including arms and drug trafficking and human trafficking.
The meeting also discussed the security and maintenance of border posts, Pokharel told the state-run RSS.
Officials agreed to expand the scope of joint border patrols and stressed the need for greater coordination and cooperation between security agencies of the two countries.
Mahottari Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav, Sarlahi Chief District Officer Bijayraj Subedi and Rautahat Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar participated in the meeting from the Nepali side.
From India, Sitamarhi District Magistrate Tanay Sultania, Superintendent of Police Amit Ranjan and other security officials attended the discussion.
