Top leaders of the Nepal Communist Party during its central committee meeting in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Kathmandu, January 29

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday inaugurated the central committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party.

One of the two chairmen of the party, Oli opened the meeting with his long address, during which he defended various decisions made by the government. The government-owned Nepal Television broadcast his address live.

Since the formation of the party after the merger of the then CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre in May 2018, this is the second time that the party is convening a meeting of the central committee that has more than 400 members. Owing to the committee’s size, the meeting is taking place at Rastriya Sabha Griha.

The meeting is expected to continue for the next eight days, during which the members will discuss the political report prepared by the party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
