Oli directs officials to introduce law on punishing acid attackers

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu, September 10

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed officials including Law Minister Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe and other concerned officials to draft a law on punishing acid attackers.

Oli says the government will issue an ordinance to take action against the acid attackers as the Federal Parliament has been prorogued now.

As the number of acid attack incidents are on the rise, stakeholders and activities have lamented the lack of a strict law to take action against the perpetrators.

In this context, Oli met 12 survivors of such incidents at his residence in Baluwatar on Thursday and directed the officials for a law draft within the next 15 days, informs Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa. Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Law Minister Sambahangphe, Attorney General Agni Kharel, and Nepal Police Chief Shailesh Thapa Kshetri were also present at the meeting.

Oli also assured that the government would ensure free education, appropriate training and employment opportunities for the survivors.
