Kathmandu, January 25
Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has objected to a joint statement issued by the United Nations, the European Union and Kathmandu-based diplomatic missions of eight western countries, claiming they held an ideological bias against Nepal.
Oli says the ambassadors’ act of issuing the joint statement was a practice of factionalism.
In their Thursday statement, the diplomatic missions had urged the government of Nepal to make public its plan to conclude the transitional justice process, keeping the victims at the centre. They had warned that the country’s peace process could not be accepted by the international community upon failure to do so.
Commenting on the statement, PM Oli, who is currently in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum annual meeting, said during a reception hosted by the Nepal’s Embassy in Geneva, “No embassy needs to form such an alliance. No country needs to do so. Why do they need it?”
Claiming that Nepal’s peace process was moving towards a right mission, he added, “We managed the conflict and the fight is now over. Some wounds have been left, but we will cure them as well.”
He was of the view that the western powerhouses held an ideological bias against the Nepal government as it was led by a communist party.
