A delegate of the ongoing ninth general assembly of the Non-Resident Nepali Association has paid Rs 50,000 fine to the Department of Immigration after he vandalised the immigration desk at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Ramesh Thapa, an Australian citizen of Nepali origin, was arrested on Saturday after he vandalised the desk claiming the queue was too long. He got released today after paying the fine.

Some NRNA leaders had put pressure on the department to release him without any action, but the department punished him as per the law, according to the department’s director general Ishwar Raj Paudel.

A woman who provoked vandalism has been fined Rs 25,000 though she was not arrested initially. Usha Kiran Bariya had also come to Nepal from Australia.
