NRNA building to house NRB’s Financial Information Unit office

Kathmandu, August 18

Nepal Rastra Bank has shifted one of its units to a building owned by Non-Residential Nepali Association in Baluwatar.

The Financial Information Unit (FIU) has shifted to the NRNA building on Sunday. The unit was earlier based at the central bank’s main building.

FIU is responsible for receiving, processing, analysing and disseminating financial information and intelligence on suspected money laundering and terrorist financing activities to the Investigation Department, other relevant law enforcement agencies and foreign FIUs. The FIU was established on April 21, 2008 under section 9 of the Assets (Money) Laundering Prevention Act, 2008 with the Nepal Rastra Bank (the central bank) as an independent unit.

As NRB’s central office is being restored as it was damaged in the 2015 earthquake. NRB’s Managing Director Suman Kumar Adhikari confirmed that that the office had been moved and work had been started at the new office.
